Seven decades of co-operation
A study group is born
Under Holmwood Practical Training Centre principal F. R. Ricketts and his assistant Sydney Carter, a Credit Union study group takes shape, inspired by Fr. John P. Sullivan, pioneer of Jamaica’s Credit Union Movement.
Middlesex Co-operative Credit Union
The group is formally named and registered under the Provident Society Act, giving the movement its first official footing.
A registered home
Following the Registrar of Co-operative Societies Act, Middlesex is formally established, later sharing space with the Christiana People’s Co-operative Bank and acquiring a permanent registered office.
Central Co-operative Credit Union
Middlesex and the Coleyville Co-operative Credit Union, founded by Hugh Lindo and G. L. Alexander, complete an amalgamation begun in 1968 to form Central.
Manchester Co-operative Credit Union (1977) Ltd.
A second amalgamation with the Manchester movement, started in Mandeville by G. W. Morgan and Mrs. C. Delapenha, creates today’s parish-wide credit union, the year 1977 marking the milestone in its name.

With professional management, modern offices and community development projects, the flagship being the Glencoe Housing Development, MCCU marks more than 75 years of service to its members.
