What the merger means for you
Answers for members of both credit unions.
Your money
The questions members ask first. If your question is not answered here, contact us or visit a branch.
Are my savings safe?
Yes. Your savings transferred with you when the two credit unions joined. The balance you had is the balance you have, and it remains fully yours.
Does my account number change?
No. Your account number stays exactly as it is. You do not need to tell your employer, or anyone paying you, about a new number.
Do my standing orders and salary deductions continue?
Yes. Arrangements already in place continue without interruption. You do not need to set anything up again.
Do I need a new card?
No. Your existing card continues to work at the same places it always has.
What happens to my loan?
Your loan continues on the terms you agreed. The rate, the balance and the repayment date do not change because of the merger.
What happens to my shares and dividend?
Your shareholding transferred with you. Dividend decisions are made by the Board and announced to members in the usual way.
Banking day to day
Where do I log in to online banking?
The same place you always have. Online banking is still separate while the two credit unions come together, so choose Manchester Co-operative Credit Union or Insurance Employees Co-operative Credit Union — whichever you joined through. Nothing about your username or password has changed.
Are my branches still open?
Yes. All four branches remain open, with the same teams you already know.
Can I use the other credit union’s branches now?
Branch and system integration is being worked through in stages. Until it completes, use the offices you have always used.
Has anything changed about my fees?
Fee schedules are being reconciled across both institutions. Any change to a fee will be communicated to members in advance, in writing.
About the merger itself
Why did the two credit unions join?
To give members of both institutions a stronger, more resilient credit union — with a wider branch network, better technology, and the scale to offer more competitive rates than either could alone.
Which credit union took over the other?
Neither. This is a joining of two member-owned institutions, each bringing its own history and membership. Both remain part of what the new credit union is.
Do I need to do anything?
No. There is nothing you need to sign, re-register or move. If we ever need something from you, we will write to you — we will not phone or text you asking for account details.
Will the name change again?
The credit union has indicated it will adopt a broader national identity in the future. Any change of name will be announced to members well ahead of time, and your account will not be affected by it.
