Holmwood Technical High School and May Day High School Debate Finals 2018

Youth Competitions

Debate

The Manchester Co-operative Credit Union continues to influence our young people in a positive way by creating outlets for them to be creative and challenged.

This was done during the past year with the hosting of our Inter-Secondary Schools Debate Competition, which saw over 10 schools participating in the preliminary rounds. After several weeks of competition, the finals were keenly contested by Holmwood Technical High School and the May Day High School. After a heated battle, the smoke cleared and the dust settled. May Day High emerged the winners of the Mavis Campbell Inter-Secondary Schools Debating Trophy. We congratulate May Day as we look forward to another great season next year.

Poster

The development of our youths continued throughout the year when we hosted the poster competition. Students from several primary schools across the parish created beautiful art pieces using the theme “Manchester Co-operative Credit Union: The Philanthropist”. At the end of marking, the results were as follows:

1st Place: Aakon Ross, Knox Junior School
2nd Place: Aion Mullings, Grove Town Primary School
3rd Place: Timothy Rismond, Grove Town Primary School

Essay

Schools in the Parish of Manchester vied for the coveted Claude Rattray Essay Trophy as they descended on the Credit Union’s board room to write an essay on the topic “Manchester Co-operative Credit Union: A Beacon of Hope in our Communities.” At the end of the marking process, the results were as follows:

1st Place: Tissauna Thompson, Grove Town Primary School
2nd Place: Deandre Wellington, Christiana Leased Primary School
3rd Place: Zamoi Francis, Sacred Heart Academy
